⚠️ The Golden Rules

  • Only adults (18+) should light fireworks
  • Never return to a firework once lit - even if it hasn't gone off
  • Keep water nearby - always have buckets ready
  • Stand well back - follow the safety distances on each firework

🎯 General Safety Guidelines

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Keep Children Safe

  • Never let children near a lit firework
  • Don't allow children to pick up used fireworks - they can still be hot or active
  • Store fireworks out of children's reach before your event

🚫 Never Do These Things

  • Never throw fireworks
  • Never put fireworks in pockets
  • Never return to a firework that hasn't gone off
  • Never light fireworks while holding them (except handheld items)

✅ Always Do These Things

  • Read the instructions on each firework
  • Light at arm's length using a portfire or extended lighter
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby for emergencies
  • Keep spectators at a safe distance

✨ Sparkler Safety

🔥 Did you know? Sparklers burn at temperatures over 1,500°C - that's hot enough to melt glass. They need to be treated with respect, especially around children.

🧤 Wear gloves - Always give children gloves to protect their hands

👶 Age 5+ only - Children under 5 shouldn't use sparklers

👕 No loose clothing - Avoid flowing sleeves or scarves

💪 Arm's length - Always hold sparklers away from the body

🚶 No running - Walk, don't run with sparklers

🪣 Bucket of water - Drop finished sparklers in water immediately

☝️ One at a time - Only light one sparkler per person

👀 Adult supervision - Always have an adult present

🏠 Setting Up Your Display

📍
Choose a safe location

Make sure your display area is large enough for the fireworks you're using. Check the safety distances on each product.

🏡
Point away from buildings

Aim fireworks away from houses, sheds, fences, and any structures.

🍂
Clear the area

Remove leaves, brush, and any flammable materials from your display area.

🪣
Prepare for emergencies

Have buckets of water or a garden hose ready. Know where your first aid kit is.

👥
Control your spectators

Set up a clear viewing area away from the firing zone. Consider rope barriers for larger displays.

📦 Storage Tips

  • Keep cool and dry - Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from heat sources
  • Out of reach - Keep fireworks where children cannot access them
  • Original packaging - Keep fireworks in their original packaging until use
  • Away from flames - Never store near naked flames, heaters, or in direct sunlight
  • Check for damage - Inspect fireworks before use - don't use damaged items

🚑 Emergency First Aid

If someone gets burned:

  1. Stay calm - Panic doesn't help anyone
  2. Cool the burn - Run cool (not cold) water over the burn for at least 10 minutes
  3. Don't pull fabric - If clothing is stuck to the burn, cut around it - never pull
  4. Cover loosely - Use a clean, non-fluffy material (cling film works well)
  5. Seek medical help - If in doubt, go straight to A&E

🏥 When to go to hospital: Any burn larger than a 50p coin, burns on the face/hands/joints, or if a child is injured - always get it checked professionally.
