Birthday Fireworks UK — Garden Displays, Sparklers & Celebration Packs

Birthday garden party with fireworks display overhead — UK family celebration at dusk with guests watching from a safe distance

Turn a birthday into the night everyone remembers. Whether it's a kids' garden party, an 18th, a big round milestone or just a reason to gather people in the garden — we stock everything from 89p sparklers and ice-fountain cake toppers to full self-fired display packs. Family-run since 1989, open all year, with free UK delivery on orders over £300 — or any cart containing an item from our Free Delivery collection, which ships free regardless of cart total.

Before you buy — check your garden size.

UK law requires an 8 metre safety distance for category F2 fireworks (small, garden-friendly) and 25 metres for category F3 (bigger effects). Measure from where the firework sits to where your guests will stand. Not sure what fits? Read our best garden fireworks guide — we've picked the top performers for every garden size, tested at our own site.

Planning Birthday Fireworks in Your Garden

Most UK gardens can handle fireworks — you just need to match the firework to the space. As a rough guide: a standard semi-detached garden (roughly 10m deep) is fine for F2 fireworks and small cakes. A big garden or paddock (30m+) can take F3 compounds and bigger rockets. If your guests will be standing at the back of the garden, measure the firing distance from there, not from the house.

Timing matters. Under UK fireworks law all displays must finish before 11pm on ordinary days (midnight on 5 November, 31 December, Diwali and Chinese New Year). For birthdays, aim for a 9–10pm slot — late enough that it's dark, early enough that the neighbours don't mind. A quick knock on the door the day before ("we're letting off some fireworks around 9 tomorrow, nothing huge, 5 minutes") goes a long way.

Kids' parties. Keep children well back — minimum 8m for anything F2. Sparklers are fine from age 5 with an adult holding them; thick gloves and a bucket of sand for used ones. If younger children are nervous around bangs, low-noise fireworks give you the visuals without the drama. Ice fountains are indoor-safe and brilliant for cutting the cake.

Milestone birthdays. 18ths, 21sts, 40ths, 50ths, 60ths — the packs above (Bronze, Silver and Gold, all 3–5 minute finales at £240–£600) cover the sweet spot. Want something bigger? We build bespoke self-fired displays from £1,000 up to £10,000+ — most milestone customers land somewhere between £400 and £3,000, which clears our £300 free-delivery threshold (and any cart with an item from our Free Delivery collection ships free regardless of cart total).

Birthday Fireworks FAQ

Is it legal to set off fireworks for a birthday in my garden?

Yes. In England, Scotland and Wales, any adult aged 18 or over can set off consumer fireworks (categories F2 and F3) on private land — including your own garden — without a licence. You do need to finish before 11pm under UK fireworks law, and you need to observe the safety distances printed on the packaging (8m for F2, 25m for F3). Full breakdown in our back garden fireworks guide.

What are the best fireworks for a small garden?

For gardens under 15m deep, stick to F2-rated garden fireworks — cakes and fountains with an 8m safety distance. Multi-shot cakes like the Sizzling Comets 96-shot or Oriental Stars give you a proper display without needing a paddock. Avoid F3 compounds and big rockets until you've got at least 25m of clear space.

Are fireworks safe at a kids' birthday party?

Yes — with adult supervision and sensible distances. Keep all children behind the 8m line for F2 fireworks. Sparklers are suitable from age 5, always with an adult holding them; wear gloves and drop used ones in a bucket of sand. For younger children, low-noise fireworks give the visual impact without the bangs. Ice fountains are indoor-safe and great for birthday cakes.

How much should I spend on birthday fireworks?

Sparklers and cake toppers start at 89p. Selection boxes from around £30. Our three display packs — Bronze £240, Silver £400, Gold £600 — all run a 3–5 minute finale, just getting bigger and more spectacular as you go up. For something beyond that we build bespoke self-fired displays from £1,000 right up to £10,000+. Most milestone customers land between £400 and £3,000. Orders over £300 qualify for free UK delivery.

How do I avoid upsetting the neighbours?

Three things make all the difference. First, give them a heads-up the day before — a quick knock, a note or a WhatsApp. Second, keep the display short (5–10 minutes is plenty) and under 11pm. Third, if you've got elderly or anxious neighbours or nearby pets, pick low-noise fireworks — they're just as visually impressive without the deep booms.

What time do fireworks have to stop?

UK law says all firework displays must finish by 11pm on any normal day. The curfew extends to midnight on 5 November, 31 December, Diwali and Chinese New Year. Birthdays don't get a later curfew — plan your display for 9 or 10pm so you're well inside the limit and the neighbours can still get to sleep.
