In England, Wales and Scotland you can legally set off fireworks until 1am on New Year's Eve (the night of 31 December into 1 January). This is one of four nights with extended hours — the usual cut-off on other dates is 11pm. Always be considerate of neighbours and pets.

Set up your fireworks before dark while you can see what you are doing. Space cakes at least 2 metres apart on firm, level ground. Use portfires for safe lighting. Time your main display for midnight — start with a smaller cake at 11:58, build to your biggest piece at midnight, then finish with sparklers or a final barrage.
