Firework Mines — Instant Aerial Bursts in a Single Shot
Firework mines are single-shot tubes that launch an instant burst of stars, comets or crackling effects into the sky in one dramatic moment. Unlike cakes and barrages which fire a sequence of shots, a mine delivers everything at once — creating a sudden wall of colour and light. They work brilliantly as display openers, gap-fillers between larger pieces, or timed to fire at key moments like a midnight countdown.
Our range includes the Molotov Cocktail (£23.99) — a punchy single-shot mine with a vivid aerial burst — and the Tick Tock Bang (£29.99), which adds a timed delay before a powerful detonation of colour. Both are F3-rated (1.3G/1.4G) with a 25-metre safety distance, so you'll need a decent-sized garden or open space.
Mines pair perfectly with other firework types. Use them alongside compound fireworks and rockets to add variety and punch to your display. They're also a smart addition to any selection box order when you want a dramatic opening shot. Browse our full range of best-selling fireworks for more display ideas.
What is a firework mine?
A firework mine is a single-shot tube that launches all its effects into the sky at once. Instead of a sequence of shots like a cake, a mine fires a single, dramatic burst of stars, comets or crackling effects — delivering maximum impact in one instant moment.
How do you use firework mines in a display?
Mines work best as openers, finales or punctuation between other fireworks. Place the tube on firm, level ground, light the fuse and step back to your safety distance. Fire one at the start of your show for a dramatic opening, or time several to go off simultaneously for a wall-of-colour effect.
Are mines loud?
Mines produce a single bang or whoosh rather than sustained noise. The burst itself is brief but can be loud depending on the effects — crackling mines are noisier than those with silent stars. If noise is a concern, check our low-noise fireworks collection.
What safety distance do mines need?
Both mines in our range are F3-rated, requiring a 25-metre safety distance from the firing point to spectators. You'll need a garden or open space large enough to maintain this distance safely. Always read the individual product label before use.
Can you fire mines from a mortar tube?
Our mines come as self-contained tubes ready to fire — no separate mortar needed. Simply place on level ground, light the fuse and retire. Check our firing equipment range if you need portfires or other accessories for safe ignition.
What is the difference between a mine and a cake?
A cake (or barrage) fires multiple shots in sequence over 10 seconds to several minutes. A mine fires all its effects in a single instant burst. Cakes provide sustained entertainment while mines deliver one dramatic moment of impact. Most displays benefit from using both types together.
