Galactic Update: February 2026

Well, what a month. If January was all about the build-up, February has been the payoff. The Year of the Fire Horse well and truly arrived, spring is on the horizon, and we've got plenty to talk about. Grab a brew and let's get into it.

Chinese New Year - the Fire Horse delivered

Back in January, I couldn't shut up about the Year of the Fire Horse. I was genuinely buzzing about it. So how did it go?

Absolutely brilliant, that's how.

February 17th came around and celebrations kicked off across the UK. London's Chinatown hosted what's being called the biggest community Lunar New Year celebration outside Asia - a massive parade on the 22nd with dragon and lion dance troupes, handcrafted floats in red and gold, and fireworks lighting up the night sky. Camden Market ran a two-day celebration with lantern installations and cultural workshops. The BBC even covered it live.

And it wasn't just London. Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, York, Southampton - all had parades and events. Durham put on a cracking fireworks display over the River Wear. We supplied displays to events up and down the country, and the feedback has been incredible. Seeing your photos and videos land in our inbox makes our day.

What I love about Chinese New Year is that it keeps growing. More people getting involved, more communities putting on events, more people discovering that fireworks aren't just a November thing. You lot did the Fire Horse proud. Thank you.

Spring season - start planning now

Right, here's my annual reminder that spring is basically here. I know it doesn't feel like it when you're scraping ice off the car at 7am, but trust me - wedding season, corporate events, birthday parties, gender reveals - they all sneak up on you faster than you'd think.

There's nothing quite like fireworks to end a perfect wedding evening

Wedding season peaks from April through to September, and if you're getting married this year (congratulations, by the way), now is the time to get your fireworks sorted. Not May. Not "a few weeks before." Now.

One thing we've noticed for 2026 is that weddings are getting more personal and intimate. Couples are choosing atmosphere over excess - smaller guest lists, meaningful touches, real moments. That suits fireworks perfectly. You don't need a 20-minute barrage for a wedding - sometimes a short burst of white and gold is all it takes to create a moment nobody forgets.

2026 stock - it's going to be a big year

I teased this in January and I'm going to tease it again because honestly, I can't help myself. The 2026 stock is looking phenomenal.

We've been working closely with our suppliers - Primed Pyrotechnics, Cube Fireworks, Brothers, Celtic, and more - and the new products coming through this year are properly exciting. I've seen some of the footage from testing and... yeah, you're going to want to see this for yourselves. The colours are unreal, the breaks are cleaner, and some of the effects are on another level.

The ban debate - your voice matters

Following on from January's post about the Parliamentary debate on the proposed 90dB firework limit - first off, thank you. The number of you who wrote to your MPs using our template was incredible, and that kind of engagement is exactly what this industry needs.

We know Parliament updated their fireworks regulation briefing on 19th January, which tells us this isn't going away. There's also been renewed media focus on enforcement - articles about the £90 on-the-spot fines, safety distances, legal hours. Some of it useful education, some of it the usual scaremongering.

Here's where we stand: the BFA's 10-Point Plan remains the sensible, balanced approach to firework regulation. It addresses safety concerns without destroying an industry that brings joy to millions of people every year. Raise the age limit to 21, crack down on illegal sales, tougher sentences for misuse - we support all of it.

Community spotlight

Community displays - the heart and soul of the fireworks tradition

One of the best things about writing these updates is reading the comments. Last month, we had some brilliant responses - one reader shared their experience of organising a village display for 2,000 people. Full health and safety, marshals, first aid - done properly, using Category 3 fireworks from us. That's what responsible firework use looks like.

The point was spot on: if the 90dB lot get their way, community displays die. There aren't enough licensed professional operators to cover every village fete, school fundraiser, and community bonfire in the country. These events aren't just about the fireworks - they're about communities coming together, raising funds, creating memories.

That's what keeps us going after all these years. Three generations of Turvers, family-run since 1989, and the reason we're still here is because of communities like yours.
