Red Smoke Grenade brings the drama. A deep red cloud turns an ordinary field into something off a film poster, which is why it gets picked for moody photoshoots and music videos.
It's a single ring-pull grenade from Black Cat. Pull the ring and it catches within a couple of seconds, then pours out around 90 seconds of thick smoke with no flame and nothing fired into the air. Outdoors only, and on private land: the label is clear that setting one off in a public area is against the law.
Red holds its colour well on camera, even on a bright day. Keep your subject a few steps away and let the cloud roll in behind them.
