A small gas blow torch, and the thing most people wish they had bought before the first time they tried to light a display in a breeze.
An ordinary lighter blows out. A jet flame does not: it comes out under pressure in a tight blue cone, so it stays lit in wind and gives you a real flame to hold against a fuse instead of a flicker you have to shelter with your other hand.
It lives in a coat pocket all season. Mostly it means you are not crouched over a fuse cupping a flame while everybody stands about waiting.
If you are lighting more than two or three fireworks in a night, you will not go back to an ordinary lighter.
Fawkes' Top Tip
A jet flame is far hotter than a lighter, so touch it to the end of the fuse and take it straight away rather than holding it there.
