The Wow-Factor vs Duration Trade-Off
30-minute displays are at the duration end of the scale. Your budget buys extended shows with sustained aerial effects.
Budget 30-minute displays: Your budget spread across many cakes to hit 30 minutes. Sustained show with consistent effects.
Mid-range 30-minute displays: Good balance - 30 minutes with decent-sized cakes throughout. Extended show with quality maintained.
Premium 30-minute displays: Large cakes across 30 minutes. Extended show with spectacular effects sustained throughout.
Ultra-premium displays: Maximum of everything - huge cakes, 30+ minutes, spectacular effects. For those who want extended duration AND maximum wow-factor (large budget required).
Remember: a £300 30-minute display spreads budget across duration. A £300 10-minute display concentrates that budget for maximum wow-factor. Neither is wrong - depends what you want.
Actual Duration
30-minute displays are designed for approximately 30 minutes of continuous firing. In reality your display will run significantly longer because:
- Lighting time between cakes
- Pauses you take
- Moving between firing positions
- More cakes = more transitions
Most people find 30-minute displays actually run 40-50+ minutes. Be prepared for extended time outdoors - audiences should dress warmly!
Who Chooses 30-Minute Displays?
Firework enthusiasts: People who genuinely want to be out there all evening watching fireworks. You're not looking for a quick wow then back inside - you want extended aerial entertainment.
Bonfire Night traditionalists: When fireworks ARE the event, not a party highlight.
Community organisers: Extended displays for larger audiences where duration matters.
Those adding extras: Use 30-minute display as base, add rockets/fountains/extras for truly extended shows of 60+ minutes.
Considerations for 30-Minute Displays
Weather: 40-50+ minutes outdoors (with setup and actual duration). November can be cold - audiences need warm clothing.
Setup time: More cakes = more setup. Allow 20-30 minutes to position everything properly.
Helpers recommended: Managing 30 minutes of continuous lighting is challenging alone. Consider having someone help.
Space: More cakes = more setup space needed. Ensure adequate area.
Audience stamina: Extended shows test attention spans. The variety helps maintain interest.
Customising Your Display
30-minute displays work as extended bases:
- Add rockets - Extend and enhance with rockets between cakes
- Add ground effects - Fountains, wheels, etc. for opening/interludes
- Create marathon shows - Combine with extras for 60+ minute displays
Firing Your Display
Step 1: Check the product page - your firing order will be listed there.
Step 2: Set up all cakes in your display area with proper spacing. This takes significant time with 30-minute displays.
Step 3: Light cakes one at a time following the firing order. Pace yourself - it's a marathon not a sprint.
Step 4: Take natural pauses between cakes. With 30 minutes of content, pacing is crucial.
Safety Distances
30-minute displays contain F2 and/or F3 aerial cakes:
- F2 cakes: 8-metre minimum safety distance
- F3 cakes: 25-metre minimum safety distance
- For the whole display: Use the largest distance required (typically 25m)
Check your display's product page for exact classifications of all included cakes.
