Cakes & Barrages

This is our biggest collection — 213 firework cakes and barrages covering every budget and display size. A firework cake is a box of tubes fused together internally, so you light one fuse and get a full sequence of aerial effects. Shot counts in this range run from 9-shot garden cakes at £5.99 up to 600-shot compound barrages that fill the sky for five minutes straight.

What's the difference between a cake and a barrage?

In practice, not much. Both are multi-shot fireworks that fire from a single ignition point. Some retailers use "barrage" for products where every shot fires the same effect — a 40-shot barrage of gold palms, for instance — while "cake" covers products with mixed effects throughout the sequence. We stock both, and you'll see some products described as one or the other depending on the brand. The key thing is they all work the same way: light the fuse, stand back, enjoy the show.

Choosing the right cake for your display

Garden displays (Cat F2, 8m safety distance). Stick to cakes with 9 to 25 shots. These are compact enough for a standard back garden and run for 15 to 45 seconds each. Expect to pay £5.99 to £20. Three or four of these, fired one after another, gives you a solid five-minute show.

Field displays (Cat F3, 25m safety distance). This is where the bigger cakes come in. Products with 49 to 200 shots produce wider breaks, louder reports, and longer durations. These are the ones that make people go quiet and then cheer. Budget £25 to £100 per cake.

Serious displays (compounds and 500+ shot cakes). Compound cakes are multiple units fused together on a single board — one ignition, five or more minutes of continuous effects. The largest products in our range have 500 to 600 shots and are genuine showstoppers. If you're doing a Bonfire Night display for a crowd, these are what you want.

Fan cakes and shaped effects

Some cakes fire their shots in a fan pattern rather than straight up. Fan cakes spread effects across a wider arc of sky, which looks more impressive from a distance but needs more overhead clearance. They work best in open fields. We label fan cakes clearly on each product page so you know what you're getting.

How to get the most out of your cakes

Place each cake on a flat, solid surface — a paving slab or a sheet of plywood on firm ground. If the ground is soft, the cake can tilt during firing, which is dangerous. Tape or weight down lighter cakes in windy conditions. For a longer show, stagger your cakes with 10-15 second gaps between each one rather than firing everything at once. And keep your audience behind the safety distance marked on the label (8m for Cat F2, 25m for Cat F3).

If noise is your priority, head to our loud fireworks page — it's filtered for the biggest bangs. For quieter events, our low noise fireworks collection has products that won't upset pets or neighbours. Or if you'd rather not plan the running order yourself, the complete display packs include everything pre-selected and ready to fire.

We stock cakes from all the UK's leading brands including Primed Pyrotechnics, Brothers, Celtic, and more. Many products include video previews so you can see the effects before you buy. Need several? Our cake cases offer bulk pricing.

All 213 products are shown below. Use the filters to narrow by price, brand, shot count, or category. Prices start from £5.99 with free delivery over £300.

What is a firework cake?

A firework cake is a multi-shot firework where multiple tubes are fused together inside a single box. You light one fuse and the cake fires a sequence of shots automatically — one after another or in patterns. Shot counts range from 9 up to 600+. They're also called barrages, multi-shots, or single ignition fireworks because you only need to light them once.

What's the difference between a cake and a barrage?

Practically, they're the same thing. Some brands use "barrage" when every shot fires the same effect (like a barrage of gold palms) and "cake" when the effects change throughout the sequence. But the terms are used interchangeably across the industry. Both fire from a single ignition point.

How many shots should I look for in a firework cake?

It depends on the space and the display you want. For a back garden, 9 to 25 shots is plenty — these run 15 to 45 seconds each. For a field display, look at 49 to 200 shots for bigger effects and longer durations. For a Bonfire Night crowd, compound cakes with 300 to 600 shots can run for five minutes or more from a single fuse.

What does single ignition mean?

Single ignition means you only need to light the firework once. The internal fuse connects all the tubes, so the whole sequence fires automatically after you light the main fuse. All firework cakes and barrages are single ignition — it's one of the reasons they're so popular for home displays.

Can I use firework cakes in my garden?

Yes, but check the category rating. Category F2 cakes need 8 metres between the firework and your audience — most gardens can manage this. Category F3 cakes need 25 metres, which means a larger garden or a field. The category is printed on every product and listed on each product page.

What is a compound firework?

A compound is several cakes fused together on a single board or in a single box. They produce longer, more complex displays because they combine different effects in sequence. Compounds are usually 200+ shots and run for several minutes. They're the closest thing to a professional display you can buy as a consumer.

How should I set up firework cakes safely?

Place the cake on a flat, hard surface like a paving slab. Never fire from grass or soft ground as the cake can tilt. Tape or weight down lighter cakes in windy weather. Light the fuse at arm's length and move away immediately. Keep all spectators behind the minimum safety distance — 8 metres for Cat F2, 25 metres for Cat F3.
