Can
I put my display on at any time of the year?
Yes. But please respect your neighbours. Any time after 10pm
might be anti-social.
How
should I prepare?
A few days prior to the display, obtain your timber and also
familiarise yourself with the fireworks. Decide on a suitable
firing area and rope or fence off an area as shown on the
layout plan provided. Ensure the fireworks are stored safely
and securely in a room, large tent or shed as near as possible
to the firing site. Ensure no overhead obstruction impedes
the ascent of aerial fireworks. Rockets should be covered
by a waterproof sheet and suitably protected from sparks whilst
other fireworks are being fired.
Do
I need a licence?
No. At present anyone can put on a firework display without
any training or licence.
Is
it safe?
All our DIY conform to the specifications of British Standard
BS 7114, which requires fireworks to be quality tested prior
to sale, to have adequate delay fuses prior to ignition and
to have labels with clear descriptions, warnings and instructions.
Where
can I hold a display?
Any area clear of buildings, vehicles and trees is suitable
where you have at least 25 metres (81 ft) between spectators
and fireworks, and a fall-out zone at the rear of the firing
site where rocket sticks and debris can fall harmlessly. Some
of our bigger fireworks require 50 metres (162 ft) clearance.
What
if it rains?
Providing you have kept your fireworks dry, by placing them
in plastic bags when you set them up, this shouldn't be a
problem. However, windy conditions can make firing a display
hazardous and we would advise not to go ahead if it is any
more than breezy.
What
about transport of fireworks?
You can carry up to 50kg of fireworks in your car or van without
any restrictions.
Who
should I notify?
We advise that you inform the police, fire brigade, your neighbours
and nearby owners of pets and farm animals, of the date, time
and place of display. If you are near an airport or by the
sea, you should also inform the CAA and/or the coast guard.
Do
I need insurance?
Most household policies include at least £1 million of public
liability insurance and our own products and displays are
covered. However if you are organising a public display you
will need additional liability insurance. This can be arranged
through our broker for approximately 25 pounds per event.
